TAILORED NECESSITIES

Size & Fit

Tailored Necessities primarily serves U.S.-based customers, so our suit and tuxedo sizing is presented in familiar U.S. menswear terms. All suit and tuxedo jackets are Regular length unless an individual product specifically states otherwise.

How suit sizing works

Select the jacket size you normally wear in a suit or tuxedo. Each jacket is manufactured with a specific matching trouser and the two pieces are sold together as a set.

Jacket and trouser sizes cannot be mixed, matched, separated, or customized. For example, a 38 Regular jacket is paired with a 32 Waist trouser. We cannot substitute a 28 Waist or another trouser size with that jacket.

Jacket & trouser size guide

U.S. Jacket Size Included Trouser Waist Manufacturer Jacket Size (EU Reference)
36 Regular 30 Waist EU 46
38 Regular 32 Waist EU 48
40 Regular 34 Waist EU 50
42 Regular 36 Waist EU 52
44 Regular 38 Waist EU 54
46 Regular 40 Waist EU 56
48 Regular 42 Waist EU 58
50 Regular 44 Waist EU 60
52 Regular 46 Waist EU 62

Important: The EU number in this chart refers to the jacket size only. It does not refer to the trouser waist. EU sizing is included only as a manufacturer reference. Available sizes vary by style.

Fixed suit sets — no mix & match

Our ready-to-wear suits and tuxedos are manufactured as complete sets. Suit separates are not available, and the trouser that comes with a jacket cannot be exchanged for a different trouser size before shipping.

If the included trouser waist is larger than you normally wear, we recommend choosing the jacket size that fits you best and discussing the trouser alteration with a professional local tailor after delivery. The amount a garment can be altered depends on its construction and your individual fit needs.

Trouser length & alterations

Trousers are shipped with an unfinished/open bottom. There is no finished inseam length. Your local tailor will need to hem the trousers to your preferred finished length after you receive them.

Tailored Necessities does not perform tailoring or alterations before shipping. This includes hemming, waist adjustments, sleeve alterations, jacket suppression, and other fit modifications.

Jacket sleeve length

Jacket sleeves can typically be shortened by a professional tailor. Many styles also include some allowance for modest sleeve lengthening, although the amount available varies by garment. Sleeve alteration does not change the overall jacket body length, so a Regular jacket should not be considered a substitute for a true Long-length jacket when additional body length is required.

Choosing your size

Start with the jacket size you normally wear in a tailored suit or tuxedo. The U.S. jacket size should be your primary reference. If you are between sizes, have a fuller midsection, have a significant difference between your jacket and trouser measurements, or are unsure which size to choose, contact us before ordering.
